The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is a statutory body to promote and advance the engineering science and technology, established in 1920 and incorporated by Royal Charter in 1935. It is the largest multi-disciplinary professional body of engineers encompassing 15 (fifteen) engineering disciplines, and serving the nation for more than nine decades. The IEI has its headquarters located in Kolkata and it function through 125 Centers and several Overseas Chapters, Foras and Organ Besides, IEI has bilateral agreements with about 31 international bodies and membership of another eight international bodies of the developed nations across the globe. Being recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, IEI promotes the cause of research and development by providing Grant-in-Aid support to undergraduate, post graduate students and PhD Research Scholars of Engineering Institutions and Universities. IEI conducts Section A & B Examinations in various engineering disciplines (known as AMIE examination), the successful completion of which is recognized as equivalent to Degree in appropriate field of Engineering of recognized Universities of India by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India. IEI in collaboration with Springer regularly publishes peer-reviewed International Journal in five series, namely, Series A, Series B, Series C, Series D and Series E covering 15 engineering disciplines, which are Scopus Indexed. Kattankulathur Local Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) is located in SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) Campus. IE(I) –Kattankulathur Local Centre is the 17th Centre in Tamil Nadu State playing a pivotal role in defining excellence and setting up a benchmark for upliftment of engineering education. Kattankulathur Local centre was inaugurated on 01 December 2019. The inaugural function was graced by Dr. T.R. Paarivendhar, FIE, Member of Parliament, Founder Chancellor, SRM Institute of Science and Technology and presided by Dr. T.M. Gunaraja, FIE, President IE(I), Er. R. Ramdoss, FIE, Chairman Tamil Nadu State Centre, IE(I) and Dr. Sandeep Sancheti, Vice Chancellor, SRM Institute of Science and Technology. Maj Gen (Dr) S. Bhattacharya, VSM (Retd), Secretary and Director General IE(I) facilitated the inaugural function as Guest of Honour. Prof. Dr. T. P. Ganesan Pro Vice Chancellor (P&D), Prof. Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan Director (E&T), Deans & Head of the Departments of SRMIST, Chairman and Secretaries of other IE(I) Local Centre’s and the Committee Members are witnessed the function. The objective of the IE(I) -Kattankulathur Local Centre is to inculcate the culture of promoting research among budding engineers for the development of our nation.

Since the center started, it regularly organizes technical and special lectures in the fields of different specializations of engineering and topics of current interest both in academics and industries. It also focuses to observe the International / National significant days to celebrate by organizing technical expert lectures on the selected themes.

The Local Centre has close association with leading engineering organizations, professional Institutions in both national and international in the conduct of Technical activities.

Some of its specific objectives are:
